?The lightning arrestor is designed to protect motors and controls from voltage surges caused by lightning, switching loads or power line interferences. Surges of 500 V or more are directed to ground by the lightning arrestor. Although the arrestor may or may not take repeated surges, no arrestor can withstand a direct lightning strike or a surge of unusually high voltage.
